The story
Every night someone rests. Every morning he carries a little more.
A night porter discovers he can take away another person's exhaustion by carrying it himself. At first, the gift lets his family sleep through their grief. Then strangers begin arriving, and the weight on his back becomes visible. With one final staircase between him and home, he must learn whether love can also mean putting something down.
