The searchlight crosses the city. This time, it stops on him.
Each night a wartime searchlight projects the face of someone who will disappear before dawn. When its aging operator sees his own face in the clouds, he leaves his post to find the machine's hidden target. The streets are empty, the beam is following, and someone he once failed to save is waiting in its path.
