The story
He restored the missing frame; now something inside the picture recognizes him.
Cinema restorer Salim receives a brass zoetrope from the archive where his mentor died. One drawing is missing from its looping horses. When he replaces it, the figure between the frames turns toward him and mimics a private childhood gesture. With the museum opening in the morning, Salim must learn who has been looking out through the machine.

Inside the artwork
The optical machine frames the eyes, and its brass bands become natural surfaces for engraved gilt lettering. Burnished brass, tobacco shadow and worn patina keep the period apparatus intimate, so the gaze feels like it is coming from inside the device.
