The story
The city sleeps because one exhausted engineer keeps its seconds moving.
For sixteen years, engineer Yusef has serviced the machine beneath the city without asking what it powers. During his final night shift, every clock stops except the one counting down his daughter's operation. He discovers the apparatus is borrowing time from individual lives. With the maintenance crew locked outside, he must choose which part of the system to trust.
