The story
The floor is painted. The person who stepped onto it is gone.
A museum guard discovers that a painted illusion becomes a real chasm when seen from one marked spot. The first visitor to vanish leaves only a shoe and a voice rising from the floor. With the doors about to open for the morning crowd, he must step into the one place he has spent the night keeping everyone else away from.
